On This Day: September 9, 1901 Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec died in France at the age of 36. On March 28, 1896 Toulouse-Lautrec’s piece Chocolat Dansant Dans Un Bar was published in ‘Le Rire’, the most successful of all the ‘Journal Humoristique’, published in France during the Belle Époque (1871-1914). ‘Le Rire’ was published as an illustrated satirical weekly, from October 1894 to well into the 1950’s. Toulouse-Lautrec, was Le Rire’s most well known contributor. He created ten color and seven black and white drawings during the first three years of publication.
